Five for Friday: Gobble Gobble

Woo Hoo...It's Friday!

http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/2013/11/five-for-friday-november-22.html

We are knee deep in turkeys in first grade!

One of my lil' sweeties wants the turkey madness to stop!

Not a chance Sister!!!

What have we been up too?

ONE:  Reading about turkeys...

If you have not read this book, it is a must read before the Holiday!

This book set us up nicely for #2.

 TWO: Disguising turkeys...

 {Basketball Player and Princess}

{Principal}

THREE: Sponge painting paper plate turkeys...

{Front and back view}

This is one of my favorite art projects.
These always turn out so funny cute!

FOUR: Writing about what we are thankful for...

{So sweet!}

 Love how colorful these came out!

You can pick up the free template for these at Ms Makinson's TPT shop

FIVE: Illustrating turkeys...

Along with turkeys, we've been learning about the first Thanksgiving {compliments of Tunstell's Teaching Tidbits}

This book is just perfect for First Graders.

We highlighted the important words on each page and then illustrated those words using construction paper.

I just love the way these came out!

I'd love to know what your favorite turkey project is.

Make sure to hope on over to Doodle Bugs Teaching to see what everyone else has been up to.

  1. It's been turkeys all week in my classroom too! My kids are really enjoying the books and activities we've been doing. I need to make sure I snap pictures on Monday! :)

  2. Did you do the highlighting bit last year? Good thing I've got your blog to check in case you forget to tell me your brilliant ideas at school. Did the kids come up with the construction paper illustrations with their buddies or was it more teacher-guided? That pilgrim and native friend page makes me smile! KinderCoaster

    1. They didn't get very far with buddies and everyone was at a different spot in the book, so I decided to reread and highlight the important parts. Now they are finishing independently using my book as a guide.

  3. 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving is by far one of my most favorite books. I still read it to my 5th graders! Love all of your turkey stuff you've got going on. When I taught Kindergarten I had a student that wanted St. Patrick's Day to end. She was petrified a leprechaun was going to pinch her!

    1. That's funny! I have more turkey things planned for next week so she's really going to be upset with me. We still have 3 more days to go... that's at least 3 more turkeys, right?
