Tried it Tuesday {Stick 'em up}

I'm linking up with Fourth Grade Flipper for Tried it Tuesday.
We had been focusing on short vowels when I read Kelley's post from Teacher Idea Factory.
She shared about a little controlled chaos that was going on in her classroom.
She had me at CHAOS!
I downloaded her freebie and let the craziness begin!
I placed word family headers around the classroom. I divided my class into four groups. Each group was given a word list. On my count, they turned the word list face up and got to work.
The noise level went up, lots of giggling and laughing was happening, teams were working together and learning was going on all at the same time! LOVE!!!

They had such a fun time with this activity and were begging to 'play' again! I love how they didn't even realize they were learning.
This activity is great for all learners. Everyone felt successful in the end!

I plan on using this idea frequently in word work.

  1. This looks like such an engaging, fun activity! I love anything with post-it notes. :) Thank you so much for linking up!

    1. You bet, thanks for hosting! Colored post its make it that much more fun!

  2. I love organized chaos. It makes me happy when all of the kids are engaged and they know exactly what they are supposed to be doing. My principal says if she walks in my class and it's quiet, something is wrong. Hearing that your kids were giggling makes it all that much better. That is what it is all about...making learning fun for them!

    1. It was super fun! This is the perfect group to be chaotic with! Your class sounds super fun!

  3. My mind is spinning thinking of everything we could use this for in fourth grade. I believe that if they are up and moving and actively engaged then real learning is going on. You know you have a hit when they beg to do it again!
